From the liner notes of the tape "Old Hymns for a New Age":

"Every generation is a fulcrum of change, ushering in a new age. At the same time, the living tradition of faith continually rediscovers that which is true and alive with meaning. The great hymns and spiritual songs can take shape in new ways and new forms. Still they resound through the centuries from the same well-spring of all inspiration.

"We find ourselves in a new era of ancient and diverse spiritual traditions among those who look for, long for and work for a new vision of hope, justice, peace and companionship among all people.

My personal journey has led me through

• being the son of a bible-belt clergyman in a Protestant church;
• through becoming a member of the clergy myself;
• to leaving traditional parish ministry and becoming a church musician in a very open, California Episcopal Church;
• to allowing the influences from many spiritual and mystic traditions mold my current practice of bodyspirit meditation, reading everything from Linda Schierse Leonard to Metchild of Magdeburg and worship at a delightful church in San Francisco, California.

P.S. While several of the titles are specifically Christian, there is nothing particularly sectarian about listening to the piano improvisations on this tape.
